Is Elvis to Blame?
A site specific performance by Kinetic Youth Theatre

Posted Mon 01/03/10 by Claire Bloomfield

'A humorous yet insightful exploration of the journey of the teenager over the last 50 years.  An attempt to discover the roots of the ever growing issue of ageism.  This site specific performance takes place at Leven Bus Station, a location where younger and older people and 25 Elvis Presley's co-exist but can they ever be united?'

Well the weekend was certainly busy. Despite some damp weather, we proved that Kinetic Youth Theatre can perform despite what Mother Nature can throw at us! We had a brilliant dress rehearsal on Saturday that allowed the cast to see the venue, experience the spaces they would be performing in and see the project complete with all their costumes & set. First show was great - we expected an audience of 30, and instead we had an audience just shy of 70! This was an amazing result for the cast, and nothing less than what they deserve for all their hard work. And how was the first performance? Well it was an excellent example of their talents and just how they've been able to do so well in such a short space of time. Tenacious, witty & wonderfully dramatic - they were brilliant. They are excited and enthused about the last three performances.

We have two shows left - 28th February and 7th March (3pm at Valleyfield Stables, Shiresmill). Hopefully we can see you there!)

Play.Stop.Rewind: What A Week!
Posted Wed 04/11/09 by Claire Bloomfield

 <psr2.jpg>

Our latest production made it's debut last week... and what a week it was! Our comitted cast and crew had the great fortune of playing an abridged version to delegates of the National Arts and Education Conference at The Rothes Halls before opening to a welcoming and supportive audience at Buckhaven Theatre on the 29th October. We were also priviliged to show 'PSR' at the Fife Youth Theatre Day, held at Lochgelly Centre by Promote YT, which attracted over 300 visitors. Sitting in the audience was Alan Lyddiard, a specialist advisor from The Scottish Arts Council, who heaped praise on the cast and crew behind the show.

Alan referred to Play.Stop.Rewind as, 'A cutting edge [production] from Kinetic... with a brilliant mixture of live drama and recorded imagery. It was a heartfelt story of love, sex and death in small town in Fife, featuring beautifully shot film combined with well-conceived live drama with a strong visual style.'

The positive feedback didn't stop there - Alan was impressed with the show's lighting and sound and he felt Kinetic, '[Had] the most flair in regards to stage design.' He went on. 'Kinetic use music brilliantly. Sometimes the music was the prime emotional driver in a scene, sometimes it was supportive.'

The Scottish Arts Council advisor left special praise for the young cast, and thought the show was, 'Very well and bravely performed by a young cast dealing with difficult topics like sex and death. Kinetic Youth Theatre were all very strong performers, some really first class performances with exceptional ideas. I was engaged and inspired by Kinetic.'

Wow! This is a true testament to the hard work and dedication both the young people and the creative team have poured into such a rewarding project - thanks to everyone who came out and supported both our shows!

But we're not done yet! With the show now gaining attention from leading arts organisations and Fife Council, Kinetic are running an extra showing of Play.Stop.Rewind to senior drama classes from Buckhaven and Kirkland High Schools on Thursday 12th November at 2pm. If you can sneak the afternoon of work, feel free to come along and catch this inspiring, exciting new production!

The wait is almost over. 'Play.Stop.Rewind,' Kinetic's brand spanking new play has it's dress rehearsal tonight before our opening night on Thursday 29th.

Set firmly in the Levenmouth area, Play.Stop.Rewind is an original mixed media performance exploring friendship, love, innocence lost and the inescapable passage of time... and we think it's going to rock (although we are biased).

The opening night is an exclusive event for the extended Kinetic family, but there is an additional show at Lochgelly Centre on October 31st which is 100% FREE! If you can't make it, don't worry - there will be loads of opportunities to see the show over the rest of this year and in 2010.

For more information, check out the Play.Stop.Rewind website here and please leave your email address so we can keep you updated about all the cool content that's coming! We also have a sneak peek at one film from the show on our Media page - click here now!

Having witnessed a wide range of Kinetic’s work and listened to the young people they are supporting, I have nothing but admiration for their drive, enthusiasm and commitment and would certainly promote their work within schools.
