We remain committed to developing our 'Grow Your Own' program and at present have the following young leaders on board.
CURRENT
Street:Live team – two young workers on Foundation studies
Apprentices – eight young people training and working as young leaders
Advance apprentices – one young person with advanced undergraduate work based training in Informal education
PAST
All bar one of our department heads are from the local community and have grown through the ranks with us at the project. Other past young leaders can be found leading their own projects, working in the graphic design sector or as development workers within local and national projects.
We are looking at developing specific apprenticeships within Kinetic Youth Theatre and continuing to develop the Grow Your Own philosophy within our own and other less established community organisations.
FUTURE
We are in the process of formalising our Grow Your Own programme with the development of the Kinetic Youth Work Academy (KYWA). The KYWA is a unique program of leadership, mentoring and work based experience. The program leads and supports defined routes for young people into further training and employment. Participation in the program will lead to young people improving their life chances and equipping them to be successful learners, effective contributors, responsible citizens and confident individuals. The output of the programme will be teams of energised and enthusiastic young people who are trained and experienced young workers fit for building relationships with their peers in local youth work settings.
This area of our work has been the most crucial key to our development over the past decade and remains a top priority as we look to a sustainable future.
