It's been a minute since we last updated the blog over here at Kinetic, so in the words of Rakim 'Sorry I kept you.'

Sam (L) and Rachael doing their thing on the PSR Tour earlier this month.

Over the past two months Kinetic's film and theatre departments (ie: Claire and I) have been embroiled in Kinetic Theatre's most ambitious tour yet, taking the epic 'Play.Stop.Rewind' across the country, from Aberdeen to London with a few pitstops at Stirling's mFEST and The National Festival Of Youth Theatre in Fife. The show's were a huge success and a brilliant time was had by all. We've only five shows left on home soil in October, so snap those tickets up while they last!

A sneak peek at the artwork for the Snowdrop Festival brochure...

In the meantime, Paul and Other Andrew have been holding down the fort with websites for SWAP, etalent and some awesome looking brochures for Fife's Cultural Partnership, allowing Paul to experiment with lots of exciting new printing techniques.

Lewis Howden plays a man haunted by the past in Boxer.

We've a bunch of things coming down the pipeline too, including a new film for our old friends Columba 1400, a whole host of films and event management for the NYWW Awards in October and a documentary highlighting the drink problem blighting teenagers in Rosyth, funded by The Robertson Trust. My latest short, 'Boxer' will also be popping up at various festivals around the UK and our intrepid intern Abbie (see below) is getting ready to shoot her next short  - so keep your peepers peeled for more info coming soon!

Kinetic are proud to introduce our latest recruit Abbie McFarlane to the Media department! Abbie will be volunteering with us for the next three months, funded by those nice people over at ProjectScotland... huzzah!

 <abbie.jpg>
Abbie doing her best board clap on set of 'Boxer.'

Abbie is born and bred 100% pure Kirkcaldy and first got involved with us at a script workshop we ran in Easter 2009. Shortly afterwards she was a huge help during the shoot for PSR, becoming a production assistant during the live shows and creating lots of cool video featurettes for the website. She then helped out on our latest short 'Boxer' and while on placement will be taking part in our massive Play.Stop.Rewind. UK tour as well as shooting her own personal project.

Abbie aka Scabbie aka Albert Mac aka Cookie aka Mole has secured a place at Glasgow's RSAMD and will scoot off to the west coast in September to study film and television for the next three years.

But until then... welcome to the team Abbie!

Art Attack!

 <thumb_2.jpg>

We were recently asked by Martin Currie, a boutique investment management firm based in Edinburgh to provide a series of drawings for a presentation they were doing on the emergence of China as a financial superpower.

Over four days, the drawings took shape from initial character concepts through to final colour illustrations, using our fancy Wacom tablet and Adobe Photoshop.

It was a great opportunity to add a new string to our creative bow, and channel some of that old art college magic! Best of all, the client was really happy with the final outcome and would like to use us again for more illustrative work - so big thanks to Asman and Ann at Martin Currie for giving us a chance and trusting us to deliver to tight deadlines!

Just thought I'd let everyone know that the cool little website for Kinetic's original mixed media production 'Play.Stop.Rewind.' is online and full of photos, cast and crew blogs and awesome behind the scenes video courtesy of Abbie, our young filmmaking wonder kid.

The best thing is, the site will be updated regularly as we warm up for the tour this summer... so the only way to stay on top is to sign up for updates!

Team Kinetic attended the fifth Social Enterprise Fair at Edinburgh's Corn Exchange today, surrounded by over 100 other ethical businesses from all over Scotland. Sporting our new away kit, we were not difficult to miss around the stands and made some new friends along the way.

We'd like to take this opportunity to thank the event's organisers for arranging a great day, and if you got a chance to speak to us today please get in touch to find out how we can help you promote your business to the masses!

What's going on at Kinetic HQ

 <tshirt.jpg>

April has been a very busy month for Kinetic Media, and as always we've had a heap of work come our way over the past few weeks. We are fortunate enough to be working on an online tool with a new client, which is exciting, plus Fife Council have been great at keeping us involved in some cool projects. We look forward to producing some nice booklets with fancy finishes (I can almost smell the GF Smith papers and foil blocking), Scottish Wider Access Programme's website is nearly done and we are looking forward to finishing the Gok Wan style makeover!

Kinetic are also exhibiting some portfolio work at the S2S Social Enterprise Trade Fair next week. Hopefully we'll meet some interesting, like-minded businesses and take full use of the networking potential! We'll maybe even post some photos too... if you're good!
The Boxer Shoots!
Updated Wed 21/04/10 by Andrew Cumming
 <boxer2img.png>

Just a wee update to let you know that our latest short film, 'The Boxer,' filmed in partnership with Kinetic Media, is shooting from Saturday 27th - Tuesday 30th March 2010.

The film, about a homeless man who comes to the rescue of a young woman is shot almost entirely in the Levenmouth community and will feature many local landmarks past and present. We have assembled a great little team both in front and behind the camera and can't wait to get on location and start work!

There will be some behind the scenes photos and more updates to follow.

We're also wrapping up work on jobs for NHS Fife, The Playfield Institue and NHS 24 over the coming weeks, which will be added to our portfolio section in due course.

'Next!' Actors and extras on set during the NHS Fife shoot which filmed 20-21 January

We've had a busy old month at Kinetic Media HQ. I've been hard at work on a job for the Playfield Institute in Cupar, putting the finishing touches on a couple of short films that highlight the great work Kinetic does with young people in the local community. The films will feature on Playfield's website as well as the community wing of this site and should be available to watch next month. Kinetic Trivia alert: The films also feature original music from Paul's pet project, an acoustic two-piece with lots of cool trumpet and keyboard harmonies and it sounds great.

I've also been calling 'action' on a new NHS Fife DVD encouraging staff to report physical aggression towards staff. A few familiar faces returned for the shoot including Rachael Keillor from our brand spanking new theatre company Kinetic Productions and Garry Torrance, our DP on the excellent Play.Stop.Rewind films. Filming took place over three days and finished ahead of schedule (always a bonus). So a big high five to everyone who pitched in to make things run as smoothly as they did... you know who you are.

Our work for the NHS continues with a new promo for NHS 24. They've been a fantastically loyal client to us over the past three years and I'm delighted to be helping them promote their range of services to the general public. Filming should kick off in February with an aim to having the DVD ready in March.

More updates to follow, and I'm planning to get our awesome new showreel online soon, if the Other Andrew will allow it.

Step by step: The images above show the three key stages in making our GOTM ident - storyboard, green screen photography and final composited image.

Christmas is only three weeks away, so as an early present I thought I'd put up a few more films and motion clips on the site. We're now showcasing part of our recent DVD for Fife Council, a couple of films from our Culture of Violence show (which contains some strong language and depictions of violence), a promo we recently completed for Girls On The Move and a couple of oldies from the vault - two promos for Columba 1400 and WWF (the environmental charity, not the wrestlers).

Enjoy!

Testimonials.
"It has been a true pleasure working with Kinetic. We knew they would create a professional film from what we had seen of their previous work, but the product was better than we could ever imagine. Their creative energy was an inspiration and they understood completely the message we wanted to convey, transforming it into a film with a clear, real voice. It has strong visual and emotional impact and those who have seen it are visibly moved. Kinetic have created a film which we know will inspire others to make a difference in young people's lives.  We couldn't have hoped for a better outcome."
